Interview with artist Maria Filopoulou – 23rd April 2013
On the eve of the opening to her much anticipated exhibtion, Instinct for Water, we asked Maria Filopoulou a few questions about her paintings.
We asked her whether she had a favourite work, to which she replied that she didn't, she likes them all. So we asked, which one did she start with painting. She began by painting the nudes, as these were new to her and exciting. Then she moved on to the sunset painting. She finished off with the waterfall group of paintings. She likes to work in themes, she explained, working on 2-3 paintings at a time. She loved painting the Underwater Swimmers panoramic scene, and exploring the light in the painting 'To the Light'. Each painting is the result of many layers of paint, built up gradually over time. Come in and see the works in person, they are stunning!
