David Eley, born in 1961, is based in Bordeaux, France. His work hangs in many private and public collections both in the UK and the USA. His subject matter is varied, ranging from golf and fishing to vineyards and the famous Savoy Hotel. In 1995 he was commissioned by the United Nations to celebrate its 50th Anniversary with a 5 x 4 ft painting of the Old Course at St Andrews - which was displayed at the Golf Museum at St. Andrews.
As an artist of more than 28 years, Eley is best known for his paintings depicting wine and food subjects. David has concentrated on fine wine since 1995, painting classic vineyards and gastronomic subjects mostly for private clients, interspersed with occasional maps. He is passionate about good wines particularly Port and The Douro. Since his original introduction to the upper echelons of French wine-making, through his friendship with a famous wine merchant, he has gained privileged access to the winemaker’s world.
