About This Work

Georgette Daveline was born in Nevers, just south of Paris. She studied her art in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts under the eye of Dubois who instilled into her the traditions of the great 19th century Impressionists with whom he had worked.

She responded well to his tuition, her natural talent bringing freshness to her delicate touch and sensitive feminine vision. She exhibited for the first time at the Societe des Aritistes Francais in 1923 at the age of 21, and was a regular exhibitor at the Salons after that time.

This painting, which was completed in the mid 1920’s, and was exhibited in the salon, is a wonderful example of her talent, echoing as it does, the touch of the Impressionist masters and the palette of the Fauves.

Daveline is also known for her work as a medallic artist working in bronze. Her medal of a woman diving, very Art Deco in style, shows her talent as artist and sculptor in low relief.
