About This Work

This original drawing is a particularly fine example of Erte’s appreciation for the sinews of the human figure and his flair for creating stylish, elegant and luxurious fashions.

This original gouache drawing is dated c.1951 and is a costume drawing for the revue ‘Fancy Free’ which ran at the Prince of Wales theatre in London. Sketches from ‘Fancy free’ included “Goal Diggers” a satire on the buying of professional footballers, and “The Ice Age”, a burlesque on the current craze for ice show
