About This Work

Original Artwork 2022, Framed in unstained oak.

Erin Bird is the originator of an experimental process called ‘waterprinting’. Her compositions are created from family photographs transposed over natural imagery, entwining the two to form a new landscape. The works are transformed by submersion in water. The representational quality of photography is masked by abstraction.

Bird was born in the United States, but studied in the UK and holds a BA(hons) from Camberwell College of Arts, London, and an MA from the Royal College of Art. She is based in the Surrey area & is known for her innovative contemporary art which explores themes of identity, memory, and our connection to the land, combining traditional techniques with digital methods to produce visually stunning and thought-provoking works of art. Her unique approach, characterised by abstract shapes, bold colours, and fluid lines that resemble liquid flowing silk, has garnered recognition and praise from critics and peers alike.
