About This Work

This painting is a series of over 40 vignettes associated with wine making in the area including chateaux and familiar sights in the vineyards.

The chateaux in the painting include Margaux, Pichon-Longueville, Mouton Rothschild, Loudenne, Cos D’Estournel, Latour, Y’Quem, Leoville Barton, Carbonnieux and Smith Haut Lafitte.

They and vignettes relating to the pruning, burning and racking the wine surround the river Gironde. The painting measures 146 X 172 cms in a handsome bespoke gilt frame and is painted onto 100% rag paper, handmade in France.

The work is beautifully composed and executed and took many months to complete.

David Eley is a noted painter of vineyards- he has also completed a series based on the Douro River and has almost completed one of the Champagne region.
