About This Work

Gwyther Irwin (1931 – 2008) was a British abstract artist born in Basingstoke, Hampshire and was known for his collages. He lived much of his life in north Cornwall and was educated in Dorset before moving ihs studies to London where he attended Goldsmith’s College and at the Central School of Art in London 1951–1954. Irwin’s most celebrated and innovative artworks were created from newsprint and paper advertisements, which the artist collected from the streets with his wife before working them into fine collages of delicate and subtle shades. Works may be found in the Tate Gallery, Contemporaray Art Society and Arts Council.

This print comes from a series of 16 created by artist members of the Chelsea Arts Club for the club’s centenary in 1991. All prints in this series are signed by the artist and numbered.
