About Sebastian Hunter

Bio

Sebastian Hunter was born in January 1983 weighing in at a hefty 10 lbs 5 oz. He was a funny, sunny, loving child, inquisitive and thoughtful, bright and usually cheerful.  His first school was St Nicholas in Elstree, and later St Christopher's in Letchworth. Although he was dyslexic, he was very articulate and excelled at sciences. One of his passions was photography, which formed part of his love of traveling. In his 18 years, he visited many countries including India, Indonesia, Singapore, America (on numerous occasions), Norway, France and Switzerland. An elegant skier and computer wizard, Seb was a wonderful encourager and teacher to those less skilled. A visit to India in 1994 opened his horizons to a world of poverty and inequality of opportunity.

His tragic and untimely death in 2001 at the age of 18 left those who knew him devastated. He was a handsome and compassionate young man with many talents to make the world a better place.

In his memory, thousands of children in poor rural parts in India have been given opportunities for more than a basic education. Schools, science and computer facilities have been built. Families with disabled breadwinners are being supported and funds have been raised for a leprosy hospital and a church and community centre. Funds raised in his memory have also benefited children in Africa and individuals in difficult circumstances here in the UK.

Here we have a selection of photographs taken by Sebastian, all of which are available for sale and whose proceeds all go towards our charity, The Sebastian Hunter Memorial Trust
